Jack's Pizza - Home of the big slice SUCKS! Jack's Pizza - Home of the big slice has opened a restaurant here in Sussex just last month in the strip mall next to KFC. I am a bit slow getting this out there as I have been very busy. The week they opened we had another busy day and decided to try their donairs and called in our order for pickup ... what a disappointment in both customer relations and quality of product.
Their first screw-up ... I ordered 2 super donairs and one medium donair (42.38 taxes in, bit expensive I thought but hey if they good!) waited about 15 minutes as they said 20 minutes wait. I drove to the other end of town and took my donairs home. Upon getting home discovered they only gave me 1 of each. I drove all the way back (feeling frustrated) and explained what had happened. Their response was a curt "sorry my friend". They then proceeded to make another. O.K. I can live with the short apology but at the very least they could have NO should have offered me a partial refund or added some cheese or extra sauce for my troubles. So anyways, I took my meal home to finally get a taste. YIKES, it was terrible.
Their second screw-up ... The bread was hard as a rock and toasted to a crunch and the meat was so dry it was like chewing leather. I have made donairs and have purchased them in Halifax and the meat was moist and the bread were soft and chewy. They pre-sliced all their meat in a large plastic bin and then they pile it on bread and run it Through the pizza oven toasting it. The proper way is to dip bread in water and sear both sides on an oiled grill for no more then 10 seconds softened the bread and enabling it to be rolled and most important, bitten into without breaking a tooth.
I swore I would never return!
That brings us to yesterday and today. Yesterday I attended my grand daughters Christmas concert and I won a basket I bought tickets on, and lo and behold, one of the items in basket was a gift card for a large pizza, so, not one to begrudge a "donation" I decided to give them another chance, perhaps they made a better pizza than a donair. WRONG!! The crust was like cardboard and taste like this pre-made crust you get at grocery store with all the pin holes in bottom (or like a cheap frozen pizza crust) there was little to no sauce however I did spot some toppings here and there. Suffice it to say, it was tomato flavor cardboard, only good thing was I did not have to pay for it (lucky me).
Now anyone that knows me knows I enjoy a good meal however, whether its fast food or a sit down restaurant, I expect some form of quality for my dollar, this place SUCKS, take my advice if you are coming here or live here save your money and buy a frozen pizza from the grocery store, it will be ten times better than this place. Hopefully, they will only be in business a short while and something decent will replace them.
